Two very fine used examples of the halfpenny dull green Queen Victoria stamp from the 1884-1886 Crown CA Second Colours Issue, perf. 14 comb.  Despite being a short lived issue the halfpenny and 1d values from this set continued to be used until 1903 when they were replaced by the King Edward VII design. Over 40 printings were made of each value, but over 95% of all examples on the market today are from the last two printings made between 1900 and 1901. These two stamps are from printings made between 1897 and 1899, judging from the colours and the date of the cancels. One is cancelled with a clear strike of a July 4, 1899 Abeokuta CDS and the other by a December 31, 1897 Lagos CDS, with the large dots at the sides. SON strikes like these are not common and my estimate of their value is $25. The stamps offered here grade 80 and 75 as follows:

Centering/margins: 40/60 and 35/60

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10

Cancellation: 10/10
