Two well centered and very fine used examples of the 2.5d deep dull purple and ultramarine stamp from the 1902-1905 Keyplate Issue with single crown CA watermark. According to McCaig this issue was printed three times: April 28, 1902, December 18, 1902 and January 16, 1903. I believe the shades of purple used in the later printing are the ones with the brown tinge to the purple, as opposed to the deep and dull purples of the earlier printings. Both of these stamps are a deep purple, with one being slightly duller than the other. The duty plate colour on one is ultramarine, while on the other it is cobalt. The deep purple and ultramarine stamp is cancelled with a nice strike of the single circle Northern Nigeria CDS dated August 31, 1903, while the deep dull purple and cobalt stamp is cancelled with a double circle Nothern Nigeria CDS cancel, dated July 19, 1905. Gibbons values two VF-75 used singles at 19 pounds, or approximately $38. The stamps offered here grade 80 as follows:

Centering/margins: 40/60

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
