Canada #463viiivar 15c Deep Reddish Violet Bylot Island, 1967-1973 Centennial Definitive Issue, The Rare Plate 1 Block With PVA Gum on Vertical Ribbed Paper
A very fine NH example of the very rare plate 1 block of the 15c Bylot Island stamp with PVA gum on vertical ribbed paper.
Until this block was discovered by Gunther Jensen among a matched set of plate 3 blocks, the PVA gum printings were thought to only come from plate 3. This is one of very few known examples and is illustrated in Harris as fig. 799.
It is a highly important item for the Centennial specialist, as apart from being from plate 1, it also establishes the vertical ribbed paper, which is listed as 463viii as originating from plate 1, and thus sheds additional light on why the vertical ribbed paper is so scarce.
Listed at $1,500 in Harris, which is now almost 25 years out of date. Our price reflects what we feel is a more realistic value in today's market.
