Lot 183 Lagos SG#2 2d Deep Dull & Steel Blue 4th Printing Crown CC Watermark Perf.12.5 T Flaw VF-75 Used, 2022 Scott Classic Cat. $45 USD For Most Common Printing

very fine used example of the 2d deep dull bUlue & steel blue Queen Victoria De La Rue Keyplate stamp from the 1874-1876 Perf. 12.5 Crown CC issue, with constant "Deformed "T" in "Two" plate flaw. According to J.F Ince in his definitive work, there were a total of 14,160 stamps issued across 4 different printings between May 12, 1874 and May 13, 1875. This example is from the last fourth printing, from May 13, 1875, of which only 6,540 stamps were printed. Vertical wove paper with fine vertical mesh and watermarked crown CC. In addition, this example shows the constant plate flaw in which the "T" of "Two" is missing a chunk. We do not know the position in the pane, but we do know that it is constant, as we have seen it on 2d stamps of the next three issues. It is postmarked by a crisp, clear strike of a Proud type K1 Lagos barred diamond postmark.

2022 Scott Classic values a VF-75 used example without the flaw at $45 USD. However, plate flaws like this are usually worth between $150-$400 each. Accordingly, the this stamp should be worth about $250 in this condition.
