Lot 386 Canada #948var 36c Lilac Rose Parliament Buildings, 1982-1987 Artifacts & National Parks Issue, A VFNH Booklet Stamp Label Pair, LF/LF, Unlisted Abitibi Paper

A VFNH booklet stamp label pair of the 36c lilac rose Parliament Buildings from the 1982-1987 Artifacts & National Parks Issue. LF/LF unlisted Abitibi paper. The Rolland paper is distinguished from Abitibi by the extremely bright white appearance of the gummed side, and the fact that it is completely opaque. Usually Abitibi paper has a slight cream undertone, but it is also slightly translucent, being a uncoated paper. This issue is only supposed to exist on Rolland paper, but the tone of this paper, being cream, rather than the usual bright white makes it appear as though it may indeed be Abitibi paper. Also. the tagging appears deep brownish yellow in normal light, when it is usually nearly invisible. Under UV though, it only glows weakly greenish, rather than the normal strong yellow green glow.

Unitrade values this at $1.75 for the basic Rolland paper stamp with low fluorescence. Our best estimate of the value, given that we have never seen this paper type before is at least $5. The pair offered here grades 84 as follows:

Centering/Margins: 54/70

Paper Freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
